Visas:
Many countries are listed on South Africa’s exemption list – if you have a passport from one of these countries, you do not need a port of entry visa. There may still be a fee to pay when you enter.
To secure a visa for South Africa, you will need to apply online for an eVisa South Africa.
Lodging/Accommodations:
The local planning committee offers a list of hotels including some that are very near the UWC Campus where the conference will be held. Participants are also free to make other arrangements, but conference transportation will not be provided if you stay at other locations.
Recommended Hotels – Airport Locations
- Hotel Verde, 4-star: Situated on the Cape Town International Airport and 10 minutes drive to the UWC main campus in Bellville.

Hotel Verde will be the home base for the WCTE Conveners. Other participants looking for lodging can join us there if you wish.
- Road Lodge (part of City Lodge Hotel), 2-star: Also situated on the Cape Town International Airport and 10 minutes drive to the UWC main campus in Bellville.

On-Campus Housing:
- On-campus accommodation in one of the student residences. Click on this option when you register. Further details will be provided.
Other Locations:
- Protea Hotel Tygervalley, 3-star: Situated in one of the Northern suburbs in Bellville and about 20 minutes drive to the UWC main campus.

- Century City’s Urban Square Hotel, 4-start: Situation in Century Centre, next to Canal Walk, and about 15 – 20 minutes drive to the UWC main campus in Bellville
- Blaauberg Beach Hotel, 4-star: Situated in Blaauberg (one of the Southern suburbs) and about 30 – 40 minutes drive to the UWC main campus in Bellville
- Southern Sun Waterfront Cape Town, 4-star: Situated on the waterfront in Cape Town, and about 20 – 25 minutes drive to the UWC main campus in Bellville
Transporation to and from Accommodations
– The conference planning committee is working to provide transportation between the conference site and the airport hotels. For those staying at other hotels, you will need to arrange travel through Uber, cab companies or local bus lines. The committee is working to secure funding from sponsors to support transporation to other hotels.You should plan for travel time before each conference day.
Be aware that conference planners may need your contact information and travel itinerary to assist with transportation. Look for emails from the conference planners when you have registered.
Tours and Excursions – Local and Extended
For conference participants who want to experience some of the cultural, natural and historical features of Cape Town and South Africa, the planning committee has identified several excursions and tours that may be of interest. The following links will help you plan your visit.
We recommend exploring the Cape Town area on July 5-6. If you wish to take an extended tour to other parts of South Africa, we have identified some tour we recommend for the week of July 7.
